Operating instructions and pdf manual for use - MOTU User manual Properly done a pdf manual with hyperlinks is a joy to behold the current DP manual ain't that.MOTU User manual | | User manual here! Not to mention the way it was bound didn't make it easy to have it lay open on a table.Īnd age has nothing to do with it - I'm 65+ and really like the pdf over the printed manual.
To tell the truth DP's manual isn't all that well done with describing the functions - you have to skip all over the place. Now those very same people are all in favor of the pdf version versus the printed tome. There was a lot of resistance whenever someone over on Motunation suggested a pdf manual in pre-DP9 days because they thought it was a hindrance to pirating the program. The second solution is that when you download DP to save it off somewheres so you have it when you need it. Just don't feel bad for destroying a tree for your own convenience. There are solutions of course and the first is take the pdf to something like Staples or Kinko's and get it printed out for you. Now when a new DP version drops you get a revised manual as well.
Same for any dvd you'd get in a box - that would become useless when the next update come out.
Besides any printed manual becomes outdated when a new version of DP drops. I actually asked Magic Dave about the printed manual when DP9 first dropped and he said it became to expensive for MOTU to print the manual. Thanks in advance. There are programs that let you annotate pdf's especially if you have the manual on something like an iPad. Besides, it looks so much cooler sitting on my control desk! Maybe I'm showing my age (49), but there is something so much more satisfying (and efficient) about a bound book over digital pages.
In this day and age of immediate satisfaction (in this case immediate download of the software) is there a way to get DP in a box with the registration number and, more importantly, a printed manual? I hate searching the pages of digital books, not being able to thumb through pages quickly, and all the other benefits of a printed manual. I will simply state DP does well what I need it to do, and until it doesn't there is no reason for me to jump ship (although I am often tempted to try Pro Tools). I am not here to stir up any controversy. It seems Digital Performer is not all that popular around this forum.
